FM200 Form System

FM-200 is a clean agent fire suppression system that is designed to protect critical assets, infrastructure, and environments from fire without causing harm to people or damaging sensitive equipment. FM-200 is a brand name for a fire suppression agent, and it is also known by its chemical name, Heptafluoropropane (HFC-227ea)

  1. Fire Suppression Agent: FM-200 is a colorless, odorless, and electrically non-conductive gas. It is stored as a liquefied gas in cylinders and is released as a gas into the protected area when a fire is detected.

  2. Fire Class: FM-200 is primarily used to suppress Class A, Class B, and Class C fires. It is not suitable for Class D (combustible metal) fires.

  3. Mode of Action: FM-200 works by removing heat from the fire and interrupting the chemical chain reaction required for combustion. It does this without leaving a residue or causing damage to sensitive equipment.

  4. Applications:

    • FM-200 systems are commonly used in critical environments like data centers, computer rooms, telecommunication facilities, museums, art galleries, and industrial facilities where water-based suppression systems could cause significant damage.
    • They are also used in marine applications to protect engine rooms and other areas where fires could be catastrophic.
  5. Advantages:

    • Rapid suppression: FM-200 systems discharge quickly to suppress fires rapidly.
    • Clean agent: FM-200 does not leave a residue, making it suitable for protecting sensitive electronics and valuable assets.
    • Safe for occupied spaces: FM-200 is safe for use in areas where people are present when properly designed and installed.
    • Environmentally friendly: It has a relatively low global warming potential and does not deplete the ozone layer.
  6. System Components:

    • FM-200 systems typically consist of detection devices (smoke detectors, heat detectors, etc.), a control panel, a release mechanism, piping, and storage cylinders containing the FM-200 agent.
  7. Regulations and Standards: FM-200 systems are subject to various international and local regulations and standards, including NFPA 2001 (Standard on Clean Agent Fire Extinguishing Systems).

  8. Maintenance: Regular maintenance and inspections are essential to ensure the system’s functionality in case of a fire. This includes checking the agent’s quantity, pressure, and the integrity of the equipment.

It's important to note that the design, installation, and maintenance of FM-200 systems should be performed by qualified professionals to ensure their effectiveness and safety.
